Which Stores Are Open and Closed on Labor Day 2025?
خلاصہ: Which Stores Are Open and Closed on Labor Day 2025?We celebrate Labor Day each year as a way of honoring laborers and the American labor movement. This annual holiday is celebrated on the first Monday in September, which this year will occur on Sept. 2.
While many look at this day as the unofficial segue from summer to autumn, and also the beginning of the school year, it’s more than a long weekend. It’s a day dedicated to appreciating a big part of the American experience and history, and one that should be observed with thoughtfulness and consideration.
However, this is also a long weekend where shopping for the new school year and the changing season is pretty common. As Labor Day is a federal holiday, many state and federal offices will be closed. Because of the same federal holiday consideration, other places will be closed as well. This will include post offices, banks, and many liquor stores.
Even though so many federal businesses are closed, most stores are open. That’s great for everything from back-to-school shopping to grocery runs for those last-minute Labor Day cookouts.
Are Liquor Stores Closed on Labor Day?
It’s hard to think of liquor stores in the same category as, say, the bank or post office, but we might want to on federal holidays. For the most part, liquor sales and distribution are controlled by the state. That means they often are closed on Labor Day.
However, not all liquor stores are closed! These states do not have state-controlled liquor sales and distribution: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that liquor stores in those states will be open. It simply means they are allowed to be. Call ahead to your local liquor store to make sure they will be open before venturing out.
Are Banks Closed on Labor Day?
Federal holidays are also bank holidays. That means that all banks are closed on Labor Day. However, if you need to do some banking, do not worry: There’s always online, your bank’s app and ATMs available. They never stop (unless the Internet breaks…!)
Are Post Offices Closed on Labor Day?
As it is a federal holiday, post offices will be closed, as will UPS and FedEx. If you have an important package to mail out, better do it a few days before!
